Since school started, Blondie and I have been carpooling to work on the days when I don't have to travel for work. We estimate that this saves us about $30 per week, which adds up to over $1,000 if we carpool for the 9 months he is in school.

The downside: I have to get up an hour earlier than I am used to. Ugh. I am not a morning person. I'm sure glad he drives, because I'm still half asleep when we leave in the mornings. Also, this means I normally don't leave the office all day (I bring my lunch), which makes for a very long 10 hours. However, the upside to that is getting to leave work early on some days. Blondie does tutoring after school two days a week, so he gets to my office at about 5:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. However, on the days when he leaves at 3:30, we get home by 4:15.

Today I realized another downside of this arrangement. Classes started at the university today and I'm teaching two sections of computers and information access. Since my first class is at 8:00, if I were driving myself I would just arrive at 7:30 and park by the building where my classroom is, then drive to my office after class. This morning I had to walk all the way across campus in high heels, carrying all of my materials for class. I know a lot of people do that every day, but I'm not used to it. I will definitely wear more sensible shoes next week.
